INPATIENT PROGRAMS Spokane | Vancouver

What are the Admission eligibility criteria?
Daybreak admits boys and girls ages 12 - 17 in Spokane, and boys only, ages 12 - 17 in Vancouver.

To be admitted, the client's symptoms must meet the Patient Placement criteria of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) based upon the severity of symptoms related to chemical dependency and to psychological and behavioral disorders. These criteria are commonly used by all substance abuse treatment providers in the State of Washington and Idaho, and are used by most health insurance providers.

Daybreak will admit youth who need psychotropic medications. If such medications are already prescribed, we need the name and phone number of the physician or psychiatrist, and the exact orders for administration of the medications.

Daybreak can admit youth who require medical monitoring for non-acute, non-contagious, physical conditions, such as pregnancy, diabetes, attention deficit disorder, etc. In such cases, we need complete medical information including the name and phone number of the attending physician, and any procedures that are to be followed, such as special diet, medications, or restrictions on physical activity.

Daybreak will review the clinical history of each applicant to ensure that the symptoms and behaviors shown by the young person meet the ASAM criteria and are manageable in our treatment enviroment.

We need your help and patience

The Admission process for Inpatient care is complicated. We are negotiating with parents and other adults who may be in crisis, and who may live far away from the Daybreak facilities, for the admission of their teenaged child or client to a treatment program that is intense, complex, and costly. We must ensure that we are helping the teen and family make a wise decision, and we must ensure that the admission process is not too difficult and time consuming. In addition, there are many more teens in need than there are Inpatient beds available statewide, so there is always a waiting list, which is frustrating to those who need treatment right away.

We will do our best to make the process clear and coherent. The key is to talk to us, stay in touch, and ask questions.

What are the steps that I must take to arrange admission to Daybreak Inpatient?

Step One:
Call Inpatient Admissions at 1 (509) 624-3227 ext. 26 or toll free at 1(888) 454-5506 ext. 26. Ask for an Admissions counselor. If you get voice mail, leave a message and they will call back.

OR

Send us an email at admit@daybreakinfo.org. Explain that you are seeking Inpatient Admission information, leave your name, address, telephone number and email address, and we will respond by phone or email.

Step Two:
Request an Admission Packet. We will send this by mail, fax, or email, or you may download the packet from our web site (see link below).

It is essential that all materials in this packet be completed by the parent or legal guardian.

Additional materials are required, including:

  • A physical exam report, from a physician,
  • A report of TB testing from a medical practitioner or county health district,
  • Immunization records from your physician.
  • Include a copy of your insurance card or current medical coupon.
Other materials should be included when available:
  • Reports from other drug/alcohol assessments or treatment programs.
  • Reports from psychiatric evaluations or treatment.
  • Court orders related to admission or completion of drug treatment programs.
  • Names and phone numbers of other significant people, including school counselors, probation officers, outpatient treatment providers or counselors, etc.
  • Most of these materials are required by law or licensing regulations, and they provide valuable information for the treatment planning.

Step Three:
Discuss your case with the Admission counselor. We will gather some background data, find out just who is involved with your case, and explain our program and finances. If necessary, the case will be reviewed by the clinical team to determine eligibility.

Talk directly to Daybreak Billing Supervisor, 509-927-1688, to work out the financial plan, including insurance coverage and pre-authorization, and eligibility for financial aid.

Step Four:
Return the completed packet to Daybreak as soon as possible, by mail, please do not fax. Placement documents require the signature of parent or guardian.

Step Five:
Obtain any required pre-authorizations or approvals from Insurance providers, medical reviewers, or legal authorities. It is best to obtain these in writing. Please send copies to Daybreak.

It is very important that you stay in close touch with the Admission Counselor at all times. Daybreak is usually full, all the time, so there is always a waiting list. Beds become available when a current client is discharged from the program or leaves unexpectedly. A bed may become available on short notice. We will give you a tentative bed date, but we may be able to get you in sooner if you can respond on short notice.

Step Six:
Bring the teen to the treatment center, in Spokane or Vancouver, on the specified date. THE PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN MUST BE PRESENT at the admission.

Please talk to the Admission Counselor about the time of the admission, the travel arrangements, (financial reimbursement may be available to families who receive financial aid), and the directions to the program. Make sure you are clear about the time, place and date. It can be very frustrating to all parties if the family misses their admission appointment or shows up on the wrong date.

Admission
The admission process takes approximately three hours. We will interview the teen and the parent(s) or guardian(s) to get more background information and explain, in detail, the program structure and services. Final legal and financial documents will be signed, and the agreement to enter treatment will be confirmed by both the teen and the parent(s).

Remember !! Call us, talk to us, stay in touch. Call toll free 1(888) 454-5506 ext. 26. We will walk you through each step of the process.
